AG of the MEET at the Lomé campus: Several wounded and arrests

Scuffles are currently taking place at the University of Lome campus. And for good reason, the General Assembly of the Movement for the Development of the Togolese Student (MEET), begun a few hours ago, is being dispersed.  Many wounded, students arrested and embarked by the police. The chases go beyond the campus. Everyone who films the scene sees their phones confiscated. Even journalists are prevented from doing their job. The university police do not give a gift to the students whom she brutally fights. The MEET, according to its officials, organizes this general assembly to make the inventory of the demands of the students who demand the increase of allowances and scholarships, the construction of the amphis, in short, better conditions of study to the students . Note that only a few days ago, a WiFi inauguration ceremony was held on campus in the presence of government officials and university authorities.

Most opposition politicians believe that Faure Gnassingbé trivialized the serious crisis that is shaking the country.  "If we have to give the voice to the people, what is the point of dialogue? If the issues for which the dialogue is announced will still be the subject of a referendum, the dialogue is no longer useful. So, in this logic, this dialogue is already dead '", indignant Eric Dupuy, National Secretary in charge of Communication of the party National Alliance for Change (ANC). "I have felt someone who is either not aware of what is going on or does not care about the people. He is someone who loves power, who wants to stay but does not try to settle what is the main concern of the people today, "said Paul Dodji Apevon, President of the Democratic Forces for the Republic (FDR) and member of the Coalition of 14 opposition political parties on RF
