Gilchrist Olympio announces its permanent withdrawal from political life and cedes the presidency of the UFC

The National President of the Union of Forces of Change (UFC), Gilchrist Olympio permanently withdraws from Togolese political life. At more than 80 years old, the son of the first president of the Togolese Republic, Sylvanus Olympio, will announce in the coming hours his decision to leave the head of the party he founded in the 90s. A decision taken for several days and known to the cadres of his party and some of his activists.

In the UFC, this decision is explained by the weight of age that prevents Mr. Olympio to influence the life of his party. This is a wise decision to give the place to the youth of the UFC to continue the political battle he has engaged for years, entrust to Afreepress, sources in the entourage of the opponent "History ".

Gilchrist Olympio withdraws from the political scene after a historic agreement he signed with the RPT in May 2010 which allowed to decisperate the socio-political situation of the country and to restore confidence to the international community which has resumed in stride, the totality of its cooperation with Togo.

The son of Sylvanus Olympio, since this agreement has become a champion of "non-violence" and has always believed that "violence can not solve anything."
