Wednesday at the Palace of the Marina, the Head of State, Faure Gnassingbe received in audience a delegation led by Moustapha Cisse, President of the Parliament of ECOWAS. This was to report on the meeting of parliamentarians from the West African subregion currently being held in Benin.
Indeed, since Tuesday the ECOWAS parliamentarians have opened in Cotonou, Benin, a delocalized meeting of the Joint Commission: Infrastructure and Industrial Development, Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources and Rural Development, of the Community Parliament.
This visit of the delegation led by Moustapha Cisse to Lomé II was to report to Faure Gnassingbé (President-in-Office of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS) of the actual start of the work and to take stock of the matter the functioning of the body, including the prerogatives of the Financial Controller.
Moustapha Cissé and his entourage also exchanged with the Togolese president on the socio-political situation of the country. They appealed to their peers in the Togolese Parliament to put forward the best interests of the nation so that the process of ongoing political reforms can continue in a spirit of dialogue.
ECOWAS elected representatives expressed their willingness to work for the successful completion of the process, in a climate of peace and social cohesion.
It should be noted that the meeting of ECOWAS elected officials in Cotonou will continue until 28 October.
