My dear compatriots, on the
threshold of the year 2018, I would like, on behalf of the ANC and on my own behalf, to extend to each of you and your respective families, my best wishes for health, success and prosperity. I wish everyone a peaceful and radiant new year, a year that will see our aspirations, our expectations come to fruition. A year that will allow us to achieve our goals of alternation and change.
May Almighty God protect us, guide us and give us the strength and courage to conquer all the obstacles on our path, the path of freedom, the path of victory, the victory of the sovereign Togolese people.
My personal commitment and that of my party, the ANC, is firmly in line with this. Indeed, the Togo to which aspire the Togolese populations, massively mobilized in the streets on the national territory and in the diaspora, is a country to the antipodes of what we know today.
Once our country, Togo, released from the clutches of the dictatorship, never again can anyone plunge it back into the abysmal depths of nepotism, division, tribalism and looting of national resources. Anyone who ventures to do so would undoubtedly stand against him, all populations, all ethnicities combined.
We want to reassure and protect the civilian population. We want to reassure and protect the defense and security forces. We want to restore trust between populations of different origins who have lived in communities for generations.
For me, it's a profession of faith. With alternation and change, tribalism in all its forms will be fought and eradicated. I took and reiterate on this subject, very clear commitments that constitute for me a personal challenge.
I remain fully convinced that it is with all the forces of the nation that we will build another Togo. A democratic Togo, united and reconciled. A Togo resolutely committed to a sustainable and shared development. A Togo where security for all will be guaranteed.

The liberation movement of our country, which we have endeavored to promote through our awareness-raising, training, information and awareness-raising activities, has entered a decisive phase in recent months and continues to to be amplified by a general mobilization of the populations in Lomé and in several cities of the interior of the country as well as abroad, at the call of the regrouping of the 14 political parties of the opposition.
We welcome it all the more, as it is the clear and living expression of the will and determination of the sovereign Togolese people, to put an end to more than 50 years of violence and terror, arbitrary arrests , torture and murder, duplicity, falsification and electoral fraud, corruption, lying and buying conscience, police brutality and permanent strokes.
I very much thank the Togolese people, throughout the territory and in the diaspora, for this historic mobilization. I salute the unity of action of the democratic forces and the peaceful nature of our movement, which continues to grow in strength despite the abuses and obstacles of all kinds.
May we remain united and determined, beyond the reach of all attempts to destabilize the committed bloc that we are forming.
This year again, many of our comrades left us. Many of them fell, during our peaceful public demonstrations, under the murderous bullets of a regime of violence and terror. Greeting their memory, we have a thought for their respective families. We reiterate our wishes for a speedy recovery to all the wounded and maimed.
We always have a compassionate thought for all those who, with their souls in pain, spend the end of the year in turmoil and affliction, sadness and desolation, victims of the excesses and other abuses of this regime.
I mean political prisoners, refugees, displaced or forced into exile and clandestinely, women and traders ruined in market fires, teachers currently on strike with the consequence of stopping classes and students on the streets, health workers who, without much means and in a dilapidated and abandoned professional environment, fight night and day to save lives, all Togolese workers who struggle to improve their lives. conditions of life and work, youth in distress, unemployed and without perspective, exposed to all the temptations and dangers of a world in disarray.
To all, I reiterate my full solidarity and my full support.

The scale of the mobilization of all, showed the depth of the Togolese crisis and forced the international community to get involved and to invest in the search for a fair and lasting solution to this crisis.
We reiterate in this respect our gratitude to the Heads of State of Guinea and Ghana, who are striving to bring together, through the implementation of agreed prior steps, the conditions for a healthy and calm political discussion between the protagonists.
We urge them to continue their good offices in order to ensure the necessary mediation required for a genuine exit from the crisis in Togo.
This is the place to strongly denounce and condemn the pressure of the Togolese authorities to dismiss any mediation, including the ongoing Ghanaian mediation.
It is also the place to denounce and strongly condemn the RPT / UNIR's maneuvers to trivialize this crisis, disguising the conclusions of the last ECOWAS summit in Abuja on the issue and seeking to torpedo the expected political discussions, including unwelcome and provocative announcements.
It is finally the place to denounce and categorically reject the government's schemes, to try to impose a plethora of straw participants in the pay of power and missioned to drown the discussions by transforming them, as in the past, into a masquerade where power RPT / UNIR is judge and party.
We want to be clear: the only two parties to the Togolese crisis, called to take part in the political discussions expected under the mediation of the ECOWAS mandated countries, are: the RPT / UNIR power, on the one hand, and our group of 14 political parties of the opposition, on the other hand. It is therefore incumbent upon each of the two parties freely to form his delegation according to the agreed size. No participant is admitted if it does not belong to one of the two delegations.

My Dear Compatriots,
It is time to prepare for serious and credible political discussions, aimed at a real exit from the crisis and not at the time of untimely and provocative statements in the media. In this regard, we are all awaiting the completion of the appeasement measures, including the release of those unjustly detained in the sordid affair of the Lomé and Kara markets, to start the preparatory work for the announced political discussions.
It's time to think about how to make the patriotic leap that will take Togo out of the rut.
It is no time for media campaigns to be undertaken at great expense and ruinous for public expenditure, with the importation of dozens of foreign journalists, highly paid, to try to plan the disastrous and especially unsustainable image of a regime irretrievably rejected by the people.
The time has come for courageous, concrete and adequate measures aimed at the alternation and the change aspired to by the Togolese people and not for indecent and vain speculations on the street, the ballot boxes, the constitution and even democracy, which are completely empty. meaning for the RPT / UNIR scheme.
In this case, when Mr. Faure Gnassingbé claims that elections are won at the ballot box, he will have to say how many ballot boxes or ballot boxes if, in 2005, he had to massacre 500 people before proclaiming himself winner; if, in 2010 he had all the minutes of the candidate Jean-Pierre Fabre seized by the gendarmerie before proclaiming himself the winner and if, in 2015, he hastened to declare himself president, whereas the CENI had examined only 14 minutes out of 42!
And when Mr. Faure Gnassingbé claims that the constitution has for the future and not for the past, he must first hold his father accountable to whom the amendments resulting from the 2002 tampering were applied immediately, allowing him to for an additional term, despite his military word.
He will also have to ask himself to be accountable, who, on the death of his father, was immediately subjected to the 2005 tinkerings, which saw him pass from minister to deputy, from deputy to president of the National Assembly and President of the National Assembly to President of the Republic.
It is time to introduce in Togo, as is the case in all other ECOWAS member countries, a governance that guarantees the principles of democracy and the rule of law. What in our country right now is alternation and political change. That is why the legitimate demands of the Togolese people, hammered for months by one and the same voice by hundreds of thousands of demonstrators, and firmly supported by our 14 opposition political parties, are summed up in an essential demand: return to the original constitution of 1992, which reinstates the vote in two rounds and limits, in an absolute way, two presidential terms.
Once again, I solemnly request the Head of State to take full measure of the aspirations of the sovereign Togolese people and to respond to them without stumbling, without any drop of blood being paid, and taking into account the appeals urgent and repeated of the Conference of Bishops of Togo as well as those of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church of Togo, in favor and support of the legitimate demands of the Togolese people. A dignified people who aspire only to freedom, justice, respect for human rights and the principles of the rule of law, democracy and good governance.
I reiterate my call to the Togolese Armed Forces to take their place alongside the Togolese people and not hinder the progress of the Togolese nation. The national army will have to resume its republican and apolitical vocation, serving the entire nation and not a clan, a political party or a person.
I call on the international community to have a fair reading of the situation prevailing in Togo, and a good understanding of the deep aspirations of the Togolese people bruised and overthrown by fifty years of dictatorship.
My dear compatriots,
Togo and its future belong to all Togolese, without distinction. And all Togolese, without distinction, have the right to see filled their thirst for freedom and justice. I invite all Togolese populations to be more vigilant and mobilized than ever, with the full awareness that it is up to each of us and to ourselves alone, to bring the liberation struggle to an end. of our country.
