Kara: Prison and gendarmerie for trade unionists strikers




In Kara (420km north of Lome), it is still the fear. A zone of no right. Several teachers observing the strike are reported to be detained in deplorable conditions, according to the testimony of Baho Essohanam, one of their colleagues. The trade union teacher Claude Pelelem kidnapped Monday by the gendarmerie, is still held in a secret place.


 "This morning we learn that Claude Pelelem is being held at the SRI in Lome", according to the testimony of a trade unionist on the radio Fm Liberté, claiming to be himself threatened.

Earlier information from the family of a military authority in Kara noted that the head of the German teacher at Lama Kpeda High School in Kara had been claimed from Lome; "The orders come from Lome", had precisely confided the person in an alarming message.

During the mood swings of teachers who claimed the release of their colleague Claude Pelelem, a teacher was beaten up. Transported for intensive care in a medical center, the victim testifies to having been the subject of a "physical elimination attempt" at the point of care.

Four (04) other teachers were arrested and transferred to Kara civil prison, said trade unionist Baho Essohanam.

The government, through the voice of the Minister of Security Yark Damehame, persists and signs that the interior of the country remains prohibited to any kind of challenge.

The Synergy of the Workers of Togo in a statement published yesterday, "is indignant against this umpteenth violation of trade union freedoms and this propensity of certain authorities to want to muzzle at all costs the union front by the persecution of its main officials in place of solutions to social demands ".
