Gilchrist Olympio calls on Faure Gnassingbe to step down in 2020

The National President of the Union of Forces for Change (UFC), Gilchrist Olympio, through a meeting with the press this morning in his residence (meeting that is still taking place today), expressed his support for the Togolese people fighting for his release.

Obviously, the son of the first president of Togo is disappointed with the agreement RPT / UFC signed in 2010. The party with the emblem of the red palm has agreed to collaborate with the regime, in order to make reforms and put the country back on rails. But this project was only a failure.

"The UFC has a disappointing record in the RPT-UFC deal, and the RPT / UNIR has planted the seeds of despair," Gilchrist Olympio said this morning. Through subterfuges, the regime has managed to roll the former historical opponent in the flour.

For Mr. Olympio, Togo would be otherwise if the current regime had come to power under normal conditions. "Let's have the courage to recognize that if Faure Gnassingbe had come to power by standards,

After denouncing the violence exerted by the regime of Faure Gnassingbe on the demonstrators with his bare hands, he offered his condolences to the bereaved families and paid tribute to all those who have paid with their lives since 19 August.

"Ufc deplores the violence whatever the justifications.Nothing today would justify an irresponsible recourse to violence Let us avoid in Togo having to relearn in the blood Let's take the extended hand of the friends of Togo, to negotiate", a added Gilchrist Olympio.

For appeasement, he "asks the relaxation of those arrested in the context of the demonstrations and special attention must be given to the city of Sokode".

Gilchrist Olympio gives 4 pillars that will bring back true peace in the country. For him, the RPT / UNIR regime must accept the return to the fundamentals of the 1992 Constitution, Faure Gnassingbé must agree not to run in 2020, the opposition must be united and develop a clear and responsible project and prepare for the competition. idea, the partners must help the political class to prepare credible elections.

In conclusion, Gilchrist Olympio asks Faure Gnassingbé to leave power in 2020.

  2. Togolese cannot trust Faure and his parties. If he cannot honored the part signed in 2006. It implies that the People of Togo cannot trust him again because he can change the provisions of the constitution like his father did.
The most important decision that he can take now is to reinstate C92 and relinquish power immediately.
