The French president, Emmanuel Macron, is very "attentive to the Togolese crisis", informs La Lettre du Continent in its delivery N ° 770.
Since August 2017, the political crisis has bogged down with popular demonstrations of opponents of the regime Faure Gnassingbe grouped in a coalition that includes 14 parties. The situation is worrying in the sub-region and beyond.
Indeed, according to La Lettre du Continent, "Even if Togo does not represent a strategic stake for Emmanuel Macron, the French Head of State follows very closely the crisis that knows this country."
The same source underlines that Franck Paris, the Africa adviser of the Elysee, after the protests of 19 August 2017 met with Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe. He also met with opposition including his leader Jean-Pierre Fabre.
A dialogue is announced to open mid-February between the political actors to find a way out of the crisis that lasts and gets bogged down.
