Agbeyome Kodjo: 'If the opposition wants to conquer power, it will have to have the means'

Former Prime Minister Agbeyomé Messan Kodjo was Sunday the political guest of Radio Pyramide FM, a private radio station in Lomé where he reviewed the current socio-political situation. Can the opposition at the moment bend Faure Gnassingbe's power and win the next election? The former president of the National Assembly of Togo believes that this opposition still has some way to go to get there.

"The recent rapprochements between certain groups of the opposition still do not allow to drive the change that the Togolese expect and desire. If the opposition wants to conquer power, it will have to give itself the means to define its own agenda. It must be united and speak the same language, "he recommended while welcoming the strategy adopted by the group of six and the CAP2015. A strategy he finds "good but not enough". This grouping must be opened up to the other political groups of the opposition family, especially to the "emerging forces", he advocates.

The economist and former Director-General of the Autonomous Port of Lomé did not shy away from his pleasure when talking about the socio-economic situation in Togo. A situation he presents as "difficult". For Agbeyomé Kodjo, the "misery is ambient" in the country and spares no one whatsoever the small people or the cadres. "The Togolese cry their misery. The Togolese State must mobilize resources to develop the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector and the sector of agriculture, sectors which, according to the Tokpli native, are major sources of employment.
