Pastor Edoh Komi wind up against anarchic fixing and abusive rents increase

In Togo, more precisely in Lomé, it is a real combatant course to rent an apartment. With population growth, demand far outstrips supply. And the owners of the houses (knowing well the commercial system of supply and demand) take advantage of it to increase the rent as they see fit. The intervention of real estate agents commonly known as direct sellers still makes the bill very salty to the candidates for rental. The phenomenon is gaining more and more momentum during these great holidays. In a statement released on Thursday, July 20, 2017, Martin Luther King Movement (MMLK) returned to the subject. He lambasted this anarchic fixation and abusive rent increase in Togo. The MMLK of Pasteur Edoh Komi asks the Togolese government to clean up the real estate sector. The press release in its entirety!

Anarchic settlement and excessive and abusive increase in rents in Togo: The Martin Luther King Movement is indignant at the phenomenon and urges the government to clean up the sector

The right to housing is a fundamental human right. The promotion, protection and defense of this right must be ensured and guaranteed by the State. This right to housing is acquired either by property, or by lease or lease. However, it is constantly jeopardized by the owners of the buildings and constitutes a combatant course for the citizens especially in terms of rental.

Indeed, in Togo there are more tenants than owners, but the rental sector is neither protected nor insured and sanitized. Consequently, there is sadly anarchy, exaggeration and abuse in the fixing of rents And the amount of bonds in proportion to the number of months in advance of the owners, who, concerned only by their interests and their immoderate desire to derive excessive profit from being generated from them by their real estate, do not care Most of the improvement and maintenance of the living environment.

The other aspect, which is unworthy and unhappy with more than one, is also the irregular and abusive increase of rents according to the humors of these greedy, greedy, greedy proprietors. In the absence of formal regulation, rates vary and within five to ten years, the increase can exceed half of the main rent (more than 50%), an unprecedented surge.

To justify their dishonest and petty attitudes, these owners unanimously evoke the surge and high cost of building materials, while some houses were built in the previous years where everything was bought at ridiculously low prices.

The MMLK, worried by the indescribable and vertiginous extent of the phenomenon as if law and justice have hardly any right in Togo, calls on the government to act now to avoid the shocking reactions hitherto contained by the tenants.

MMLK believes that the new land code will take into account these lease and rent concerns in order to ensure reliable and sustainable regulations.

The MMLK asks the owners of the houses to show humanism, friendliness and to the tenants without which the buildings would be empty and unoccupied.

Oruko Amutorunwa (Pre-Destined Names) In Yorubaland

Ibeji (Twins) In Yoruba land, one of the most important things done when a child is born is to give the child a name. This comes after the child’s ritual birth, massage of specific body parts and other rites as well. Names are given to the child by the father, mother, grandparents (paternal and maternal) and some close relatives also. But sometimes, the circumstance of a child’s birth will automatically give the child a name. This name is known as ‘orúko àmútọ̀runwá’ (pre-destined or generic name) in Yorubaland. The most common generic names (orúko àmútọ̀runwá) in Yoruba land are ‘Taiwo‘ and ‘Kehinde‘ (altogether known as Ìbejì) which are given to twins. The first born of the twins is called Táíwò, a shortened form of Tò-aiyé-wò (taste the world) while the last born of the twins is called Kéhìndé which literally means “the last to come”. Contrary to the popular belief that Taiwo, being the first born of the twins, is old
