Food For Thought

"Beyond the Quote"

“Pearls don’t lie on the seashore. If you want one, you must dive for it.” – Chinese proverb

“You will never know how much you can accomplish until you try. Never stop trying. Your miracle will come in undefined moments.”
― Lailah GiftyAkita

Food For Thought:
If you keep doing things the same way you always have, you will easily fall into a rut. To feed your creativity, you have to step out and try new things. Satisfy your thirst for something different and reap the rewards. Such as:

Increased confidence – Going out on a limb to try something new takes confidence. Showing yourself that you have what it takes will only make you feel better about yourself. You will surprise yourself and realize the potential you’ve held all along.

Appreciation for yourself – Do you really appreciate yourself for all you do and are capable of doing? Trying a new thing, whether it’s a new look, a new hobby, or a new motto, will help you to appreciate what you’re really made of. Self-love is incredibly important.

Learning a new skill – Many times the thing you’ll be interested in trying involves learning a new skill. You may be afraid of failing, but don’t let that stop you. With practice and persistence, you will gain a cool new skill or hobby to add to your repertoire. It’s a good feeling and a greater asset.

Helps you break out of a rut – A great way to break you out of your mundane routine is to do something you’ve never done before, or try something you’ve never tried. Wake your brain up and tell it that you’re not just here to go through the motions. You’re here for a purpose!

Helps you to see value around you – Sometimes a little bit of perspective is all we might need to gain a great appreciation and sense of value for the things around us. Things like everyday life, time with our kids, friendship, and interacting with new people all seem completely new and revived when you go out on a limb in another area of your life.

Oruko Amutorunwa (Pre-Destined Names) In Yorubaland

Ibeji (Twins) In Yoruba land, one of the most important things done when a child is born is to give the child a name. This comes after the child’s ritual birth, massage of specific body parts and other rites as well. Names are given to the child by the father, mother, grandparents (paternal and maternal) and some close relatives also. But sometimes, the circumstance of a child’s birth will automatically give the child a name. This name is known as ‘orúko àmútọ̀runwá’ (pre-destined or generic name) in Yorubaland. The most common generic names (orúko àmútọ̀runwá) in Yoruba land are ‘Taiwo‘ and ‘Kehinde‘ (altogether known as Ìbejì) which are given to twins. The first born of the twins is called Táíwò, a shortened form of Tò-aiyé-wò (taste the world) while the last born of the twins is called Kéhìndé which literally means “the last to come”. Contrary to the popular belief that Taiwo, being the first born of the twins, is old
