CSOs on the human rights of populations in mining areas

Following the recommendations of the CVJR, the leaders of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Village Development Committees (CVD) from Bassar, Dankpen, Yoto, Kpendjal, Kloto and Blitta met in Vogan , With representatives of mining companies.

A recommendation from the CVJR called for mining areas to have knowledge and access to economic, social and environmental rights on the part of mining companies.

The objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity and expertise of local CSOs and local communities in targeted mining areas and to monitor the governance systems of the sector and village committees. This will allow the drawbacks resulting from the extraction to return to the populations.

The government and institutions will be called upon to strengthen the legal framework of the extractive sector and ensure compliance with the conventions for transparency in the management of financial flows. A greater social and community mobilization will be carried out in order to respect the rights of the populations of these areas.

The populations of the mining areas will also be sensitized to privilege the dialogue with the managers of the mining companies.

When the people of Klabe-Efoukpa and Okou are at loggerheads in the Wawa prefecture, the tone increases and hardens between Mission Tové and Kovié. In the maneuvers, power brokers are mentioned.  When it unilaterally launched the process of decentralization and fanciful creation of the communes, the power blinded by an electoral vision did not see the danger coming. Despite the warnings, the regime refused to listen to reason. The government has cut down on existing communities, which in particular engenders. "The dissolution of the capital cities of the prefectures in a nebula of communes created for electoral purposes". "In addition, ...
