Here is the opening statement of the opposition sanctioning the march of September 21, 2017.

MEETING OF 21/09/2017
CAP 2015-PANEL 6-PNP-PEOPLE-CARE GROUP

Declaration

Since the launch of our peaceful protest movements, the RPT-UNIR power has multiplied maneuvers and intimidations to dissuade you and to break the dynamics a unit committed by the democratic forces around the platform of demand to demand:

- the return to the original Constitution of 14 October 1992,
- the revision of the electoral framework, including the establishment of the right to vote for Togolese from abroad;
- the unlocking of the Institutions of the Republic and
- the release of all political prisoners and all persons detained following the demonstrations of 19 and 20 August 2017.

We are pleased to note that, despite the savage repression of our peaceful demonstrations both in Lomé and in the interior of the country, the punitive retaliatory actions organized by the regime and its militias against the bare-handed populations and the network cuts internet, you are always and even more numerous to respond to our call.

After the great mobilization of 6 September last, birds of ill omen had predicted a decline of the affluence for the march of 7 September. This was not the case, and the mobilization had been even stronger that day. Yesterday and today, the two falling points of the demonstrations of Lomé have seen a great affluence. In the interior of the country, neither the shameless zeal of certain prefects nor the impressive deployments of military devices in certain areas have in no way succeeded in undermining the morale of the population.

This strong determination reinforces our conviction that the liberation struggle we are fighting is a just struggle. Know that we are not alone. Today, it is the whole world that has its eyes fixed on our country. Everywhere, on every continent, the Togolese diaspora joined the movement. Many organizations of African civil societies have expressed their solidarity and welcomed the firm determination of the Togolese to put an end to the oligarchic regime of the Gnassingbe clan. Yes, 50 years is enough. Our country is the only one in ECOWAS that has not undergone an alternation in half a century. We are determined to put an end to this Togolese exception and we will do so. To achieve this, we must remain mobilized.

In our statement yesterday, we said that the return to the original constitution of 1992 is now the unavoidable way to restore Togo to the rails of democracy, the rule of law, good governance and development. We are hearing here some voices, probably influenced by the misleading propaganda of the government, to tell us that the opposition members should have voted the government's constitutional amendment bill.

After the explanations given yesterday, you understood that the members of the Opposition did well to oppose this deception to grant Faure Gnassingbé another ten years in office. The return to the original Constitution of 1992 must be done through the 48 amendments proposed by the Opposition. We reaffirm our demand for the return of the original Constitution as adopted by the Togolese people on 22 September 1992.

We were clear in our various statements yesterday. Our struggle is a struggle for Togo, our homeland. This battle is not against anyone. Yesterday we launched a final appeal to the Head of State, while he still has the opportunity to take stock of the situation and accede to the demands of the people. We reiterate this call. We also appeal to all our compatriots, civilians and soldiers, to whom the regime has inculcated unjust and unjustified apprehensions and fears in the event of alternation. We take here and now, the solemn commitment before the people and before history, to proscribe and combat any act of vengeance and witch-hunt on the Earth of our ancestors after the alternation.

We will never make ours, the anti-democratic and antipatriotic practices that we have always denounced and fought throughout the 50 years of monolithic regime that Togo experienced. We have all received Togo as an inheritance. This inheritance can not be considered, let alone managed as a personal or family inheritance. This is why, in our understanding, the return to the original Constitution of 1992 must necessarily lead to the establishment of Transitional Legislative and Executive Institutions entrusted with implementing the other points of the platform, in particular: revision of the electoral framework including the establishment of the right to vote for Togolese from abroad, the unlocking of the institutions of the Republic, and the organization of parliamentary elections,

It is to achieve this noble goal of national interest that we have taken the plunge to realize this uniqueness of action that you have always advocated against the autocratic regime RPT-UNIR more concerned with the preservation of power than by its exercise to the benefit of the Togolese people. We have once again urged that we should not lower our guard and not give credit to the government that is betting on your weariness. Remains strongly mobilized. The victory is at the end of the fight. You are the people.

"Against the will of the people, nothing is possible. With the will of the people, everything is possible. The popular struggle is invincible "

                                                           Ibeji (Twins) In Yoruba land, one of the most important things done when a child is born is to give the child a name. This comes after the child’s ritual birth, massage of specific body parts and other rites as well.
