PRR press briefing of September 18, 2017: Requisition against the criminal minority

Resistance to oppression is the consequence of other human and citizen rights. Know that there is oppression against the social body when one of its members is oppressed.

Mr Faure Gnassingbe has denounced you and you must be condemned. You are this minority, who are taking the wealth of the country. You have attributed yourself exclusively to fraud and crime, the authority and enjoyment of which political power is the source. The time has come to establish in our country the empire of true justice. Our people earnestly desire the downfall of all vicious institutions, which promote the injustices, impunities, inequalities, divisions, immorality and arrogance of the criminals that you are.

The popular cause demands that the parliamentary opposition no longer accept any consensus with you. Since Mr. Faure Gnassingbe has not succeeded in dismissing and punishing you, it is the sovereign people who are now the President of the National Court to demand his revocation and the destruction of the system of which you have lived insolently and arbitrarily for 50 years . This Togolese people, languishing in misery and you think indifferent, is standing and no longer wants to be the plaything of the intriguers and enemies of the Republic. You seem to be defending Mr. Faure Gnassingbe because he lets you accumulate major state positions and plunder the country's resources. But you have already betrayed it for a long time by your incompetence and your knavery. Above all, you have betrayed our country by swallowing the majority of its people below the human condition. Why do you want Mr. Faure Gnassingbe still in power? To further destroy our health care system, our education system, our agriculture, plunder our resources, humiliate and aggravate poverty in the country?

The authority you proclaim is illegitimate in its origin, oppressive in its spirit and tyrannical in its intentions. We will betray our country if we still tolerate it. The salvation of the Republic and of liberty imperiously commands its final destruction. You are so wicked and wicked that you do not realize that your depravity and tyranny are increasingly weighing their yoke on the people. You have ruined and lowered our country. With almost 2,000 Billion CFA francs of debt in less than 10 years, you show the achievements of a 3rd quay at the port of Lomé worth barely 100 Billion CFA francs, an airport in Lome of barely 35 Billion CFA francs worth, some streets and roads in the country worth 40 billion CFA francs, and so on. But you estimate them at 300 billion FCFA, 115 billion FCFA and how much for streets and roads? What a pity !

The list of your crimes is long and can only arouse the anger of the majority of our people, the indignation of our youth, abandoned to idleness and delinquency, and the general disapproval of the African peoples. It is no longer the time for a debate on the two mandates, the two rounds or the retroactivity of the law. The Togolese people, from south to north, desperately desires the destruction of the wretched system of which you make of Mr. Faure Gnassingbe the totem. It is the sovereign and sacred will of a people in distress and we must submit to it. The Togolese people will fully and fully realize their rights and if you resist then it will be without blame.

You have deprived us of our dignity and our happiness. You have attempted our honor, & c. Not being slaves, we will no longer tolerate your obscure despotism. All your efforts to retain power will be in vain as the time of general rectification has arrived. You are only monsters of rapacity and unhealthy ambition. You even prevent us from working in our country to help raise our countrymen to human dignity and to help build a prosperous society and a great nation. But our free and courageous souls contain springs more powerful than all your schemes and plots.

Why did the injustices and crimes of your system go unpunished by Mr Faure Gnassingbé? Is it his choice to retain a power conquered by fraud, crime and corruption? Or is it because of your spells? Everything comes to an end. Peace and national unity are once again threatened by your fault. Then, your gangrenous political system must disappear. The time for consensus is over. You do not have anything positive to offer Togolese. The grossness of your manners and the violence of your characters constitute what is
called barbarism.

In 1905, the Russian Revolution had aborted. But in October 1917, when the Russian army joined the people, this was the end of the system ruled by Tsar Nicholas II. The Togolese people, unworthily outraged and having before your eyes the long tissue of your crimes, will put an end to your iniquitous system. Disenchant yourself, you will, by the corruption of consciences with state money and lies, want to capture partisans among the people and want to mislead the judgment of our defense and security forces, their hearts will not be more treacherous to the fatherland, nor rebellious to the voice of the people. May God inspire them. Their blows must be waged against tyranny so that they may share in its glorious triumph. Please ! Togolese people and its army, make history together! Nicolas LAWSON

President of the PRR

Oruko Amutorunwa (Pre-Destined Names) In Yorubaland

Ibeji (Twins) In Yoruba land, one of the most important things done when a child is born is to give the child a name. This comes after the child’s ritual birth, massage of specific body parts and other rites as well. Names are given to the child by the father, mother, grandparents (paternal and maternal) and some close relatives also. But sometimes, the circumstance of a child’s birth will automatically give the child a name. This name is known as ‘orúko àmútọ̀runwá’ (pre-destined or generic name) in Yorubaland. The most common generic names (orúko àmútọ̀runwá) in Yoruba land are ‘Taiwo‘ and ‘Kehinde‘ (altogether known as Ìbejì) which are given to twins. Contrary to the popular belief that Taiwo, being the first born of the twins, is old

Nearly 200 Togolese workers falsely dismissed by the Chinese company CRBC

Nearly 200 employees of the Chinese company CRBC (China Road and Bridge Corporation) to rehabilitate the roads Lomé-Vogan-Afoin and Lome-Noépé, were falsely dismissed this week. It is following confrontations occurred during the mood swings of the 08 and 09 February.  These workers, very dissatisfied with their dismissal, say they do not stop there. They plan, in the coming days, and together with the leaders of the Union of Workers, Managers, Employees of Public Works and Buildings (SOECTRAB), major actions to get into their right. According to Gavor Kodjo, Secretary General of SOECTRAB who defends the workers dismissed by this Chinese company, the reasons why the Chinese company returns workers on construction sites do not hold water. "Workers are indignant against the very low hourly rate that does not even meet the Collective Interprofessional Convention, long hours of work without rest. They are often assigned to workplaces without being paid for the housing or tra
