After exchanging with the delegation of the opposition Coalition in Conakry, Alpha Condé, President-in-Office of the African Union, expressed how concerned the African situation and the ECOWAS were with the situation in Togo.
Alpha Conde proposed from 23 to 26 January 2018 for the holding of the political dialogue between power and opposition under the mediation of the Ghanaian president, according to the AU president's statement on Rfi.
And to do so, he intends to send an envoy to his Togolese counterpart Faure Gnassingbé regarding the appeasement measures that should lead the opposition to the table.
"We really want to work so that the conditions for a peaceful and responsible dialogue can be realized ... we have proposed a date, but it will be at the convenience of the President of Ghana since it is he who will be on the spot," said Alpha Condé added: "We will also present the demands of the opposition so that there is a peaceful situation, and I will send a mission to President Faure to present these requests."
As far as the power of Lome is concerned, there is no objection to the date proposed for the dialogue. However, the government believes that in the case of political detainees, those who have already been tried have benefited from a presidential pardon. The case of those who are waiting for their trial will, however, be a complication.
