In December 2017, the DTUSA was informed of the tragic death of Mr. Senam K. Daku and the arrest of Mr. Ndancky Mouhamed, both from the Togolese Diaspora in the United States living in Togo and having dual American nationality. and Togolese.
Indeed, we learned that Mr. Senam K. Daku was shot dead in his vehicle on December 06, 2017 by a group of gendarmes in Avetonou while returning from Kpalimé. Mr. Ndancky is among the three people close to the PNP party arrested on December 25, 2017 by the police. DTUSA appealed to the US Embassy in Togo to further understand the real causes of Mr. Daku's death and the arrest of Mr. Ndancky. The US Embassy in turn seized the Government of Togo for both cases. It was notified that an investigation is under way to determine the causes of Mr. Daku's death. The results will be communicated as soon as available. As for Mr. Ndancky, he is currently being held in Lomé prison and should appear before the investigating judge in the coming days. It is from this that we will know if he would be released or following his trial. The Consulate of the United States in Togo is in contact with the families of Messrs. Daku and Ndancky. The Consulate staff visited Mr. Ndancky in prison and are in communication with his family.
In addition, the US Consulate asks those who are US citizens and intend to go to Togo that they can register on STEP program (Smart Traveler Enrollment Program or https: //step.state .gov / step /) from the State Department to allow the Consulate to have their information during their stay. Finally, in this moment of political crisis in Togo, the DTUSA calls everyone to vigilance and advises you to always have a copy of your American passport with a relative in the United States who could provide it to us when needed. This facilitated the prompt referral of the United States Embassy in the case of Mr. Ndancky.
As the crisis in our country is finding a favorable outcome, the DTUSA is asking you to stay tuned.
