The greetings of the head of state on January 3 rd caused controversy among the Togolese population. Most opposition politicians believe that Faure Gnassingbé trivialized the serious crisis that is shaking the country.
"If we have to give the voice to the people, what is the point of dialogue? If the issues for which the dialogue is announced will still be the subject of a referendum, the dialogue is no longer useful. So, in this logic, this dialogue is already dead '", indignant Eric Dupuy, National Secretary in charge of Communication of the party National Alliance for Change (ANC).
"I have felt someone who is either not aware of what is going on or does not care about the people. He is someone who loves power, who wants to stay but does not try to settle what is the main concern of the people today, "said Paul Dodji Apevon, President of the Democratic Forces for the Republic (FDR) and member of the Coalition of 14 opposition political parties on RFI.
"It's only if Faure Gnassingbé already presages the outcome of the dialogue. If there is to be a referendum, we have to decide it together. And, we still think that on this level, it shows duplicity and bad faith. According to Brigitte Adjamagbo-Johnson, the Coordinator of the Coalition of 14 political parties.
"President Faure confirms that he does not care about the Togolese people. After all that happened during these 5 months, to hold such a speech shows that the president is not attentive and he is not taking the measure of the situation ", tons the president of the PNP , Tikpi Atchadam. For his part, Jean-Pierre says he expects nothing from this speech and invites people to respond with courage to this attitude of the Head of State.
It was enough to see some members of the ruling party stand out. First, former Secretary of State Christian Trimua opened the ball. "The president never said in his speech that he was going to refer to the referendum the text that was voted by Parliament. He said that the people must be consulted. This means that whatever the outcome of the dialogue, we will go to the referendum, "he said last Thursday on Kanal Fm. But, it is in the case where the referendum gives birth to a mouse that this draft revision of the Constitution will follow its merry way, he said then adding that the procedure will be completed. "Actors can no longer gather in a corner and the people can not get their hands on it," says Trimua.
During the broadcast, the issue of the same contestation of the head of state by the street was also mentioned, subject that he did not address in his message to the nation. Will this subject be addressed during the dialogue? For Christian Trimua, the head of state is not part of the dialogue; he is above this dialogue. He goes further by saying that the President of the Republic is an institution.
"We will not go to a dialogue to negotiate the immediate departure or future commitment of the head of state to leave, it is necessary that people get out of the head," he warned. Faure Gnassingbe, according to him, will receive with his government the conclusions of the dialogue and will implement them according to the indications which will have been given. For one of the hundreds of Faure's advisers, the substance of the Togolese problem lies in the mandate limitation and the two-round election of the President of the Republic. "From the moment the limitation of mandate has been ceded, all other issues are peripheral and will find a solution quickly in a dialogue," he said. Following him, the Executive Secretary of the Union Bet for Atheole Aklesso, finds that these are erroneous analyzes.
For him, Faure Gnassingbé, in his speech, announced important measures, including the fight against poverty, the development of youth and social cohesion.
"He has set the course for the future," he said. A speech that shows, according to him, that the head of state has taken the height, contrary to the opposition which is complacent "in partisan positions and especially to be trapped in the past."
The tone of the two emissaries of Faure Gnassingbé shows the state of mind of the regime in the current crisis. When Trimua thinks that Faure Gnassingbé is above the dialogue even though he is the real problem of the country, it is very unfortunate. For the former Prefect of Blitta Atcholé, the choice of his words reflects his feelings as a player who wants to be eternal within the power.
For him, all those who criticize the speech of his benefactor show "political blindness" and indulge "in partisan positions and especially be trapped in the past."
Consciously, Togo goes according to them under the governance of Faure Gnassingbé. Neither more nor less, it is the defense of their personal interests than anything else.
In view of the political crisis that paralyzed the country for five months, when people cling to power in wanting to maintain the status quo, it has been a long time since decency and common sense have fled the apparatchichs of the regime.
