Health workers in the National Union of Hospital Practitioners (SYNPHOT) and students in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FSS) are very angry. In General Assembly (GA) Monday morning at the University Hospital Center (CHU) Sylvanus Olympio in Lome, they launched, starting tomorrow, March 13, 2018, "a dry strike". And this, until the release of Professor Majesté Watéba Ihou, First Vice-Dean of the FSS and the two medical students arbitrarily "arrested" by agents of the Intelligence and Investigation Service (SRI).
They were very mobilized this morning in front of the University Library health pole at Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital. Very upset and indignant, these health workers and medical students raised their voice and demanded the "immediate and unconditional" release of Professor Majesté Watéba Ihou and the two "comrades" students (including the son of David Dosseh) kept in custody. , since last week, at the Intelligence and Investigation Service (SRI) in a scabrous case of "faked notes".
"We want our teacher and our classmates. Free them! Chanted the medical students at the AG SYNPHOT agents at the CHU Sylvanus Olympio.
To urge the Togolese authorities to listen to reason, the leaders of the SYNPHOT have decided to bring the great remedies to the great evils suffered by the health sector in Togo for decades. A "dry strike" is announced for this purpose. And it starts from tomorrow Tuesday, March 13, 2018 throughout the national territory.
This cessation of work will be marked by the shutdown and closure of all social medical centers and public and university hospitals. Less severe patients are already being asked to return home. From tomorrow, there will be no admission in any service. Emergency services will be closed. There will be no intern. No nurse on duty. Even the morgue will be closed. In short, not all services will work, except the most strategic ones.
"The decision of the GA is clear. We will observe, from tomorrow, a dry strike. However, there will be strategic services that will work. It is resuscitation, the transfusion center and the hemodialysis where people's lives are at stake. But all other services will be closed. Morgue, diagnostic services, radio, laboratory, admissions, emergencies, etc. We are asking all less serious patients to go home. No center, from Lomé to Cinkassé, will be open to receive people, "said Dr Gilbert Tsolegnanou, SYNPHOT spokesperson.
The health workers gathered in the SYNPHOT are not only demanding the release of their comrade Prof. Majesté Watéba Ihou and the two students. They also demand the satisfaction of their claim platform.
According to Gilbert Tcholégnanou, the slogan of "dry strike" will be observed until the release of the two students and Prof. Majesté Watéba, currently hospitalized, under supervision, at Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital.
The appointment is given next Friday at 8 am for another GA.
