A training workshop for women human rights defenders opened yesterday in Lomé. Organized by the West African Network of Human Rights Defenders (ROADDH), it aims to remind participants of the mechanisms of their protection.
This three-day recall session (July 18, 19 and 20) brings together women human rights defenders from five West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger and Togo).
These women are exposed and victims of humiliations, prejudices, this meeting will reinforce them in their conviction. "This workshop is just the beginning of a series of training sessions planned to take place in the coming years," says Mélanie Sonhaye-Kombaté Director of Programs and Advocacy at ROADDH.
Its aim is to "get women human rights defenders to understand what their security is and how to professionalize their status. It is a matter of getting them to do a professional job to collaborate with their states instead of behaving as antagonists, "she adds.
