The Flambeau citoyen movement organized a conference-debate on Saturday 15 July in Lomé on the theme: "Promoting effective and responsible citizen participation for better democratic governance". The aim is to encourage young people to take an interest in the management of public affairs.
About 100 young people were interviewed about their contribution to the democratization of their country. According to an established report, "the Togolese is not interested in public action, social and electoral action and it is deplorable," said Kperkouma Walla, national coordinator of the Flambeau citizen movement.
An Afrobarometer survey shows this: only 26% of Togolese are interested in political action. This means, "adds Walla," that there is a mature between the rulers and the governed. "
This state of affairs, for him, "constitutes a brake on the involvement of all and sustainable development". Hence the need to raise awareness, encourage both to take part in citizen actions.
