Launched yesterday in Lomé, the work of the 16th Forum on Growth and Opportunity in Africa (AGOA) continued this Wednesday with the ministerial session opened by Togolese Prime Minister Komi Selom Klassou. US delegates and 38 African countries eligible for this law will need to find ways and means to further strengthen trade between Africa and the US.
The work will make it possible to find solutions to the difficulties related to the implementation of the AGOA law in the different countries for the development of trade in the service of economic growth.
According to the Head of the Government of Togo, this law has certainly been the driving force of important advances in economic exchanges between the United States and Africa, but the countries have not yet realized all the potential that the AGOA Is a carrier for both Africa and the US.
The volume of trade between Africa and the United States of America declined between 2014 and 2015, From $ 24 billion to $ 19 billion for exports from Africa to the United States and from $ 24 billion to $ 17 billion for Africa's imports from the United States during the same period .
In their speeches, Togolese Minister for Trade Bernadette Legzim-Balouki and Trade Union Commissioner Albert Muchanga also reiterated the need to seize the opportunity offered by AGOA to boost Commercial activities in African countries.
"It is essential to find ways and means to improve the partnership between the United States of America and Africa in order to take full advantage of AGOA for the benefit of our people," said Ms. Bernadette Legzim-Balouki.
The AGOA Act has the advantage of allowing access to the US market for duty-free exports for over 6,400 products from sub-Saharan African countries. This is a real opportunity that African countries intend to exploit fully.
The work of the forum ends this Thursday with recommendations.
