The first edition of the International Festival of Pearls (FESTIP) starts tomorrow Friday 18 August 2017 in the city of Kpalimé. A locality located 120 km west of Lomé.
Placed under the theme "Pearls with Time", this international festival is a showcase of the know-how of African pearls.
"This event aims to develop, through activities, a work of discovery, craftsmanship, revalorization and promotion of pearl-based culture in Africa, highlighting the creativity of the people who work on them," stressed Gilles Bocco, Vice-Chairman of the festival's organizing committee.
To give a tone to this highly artistic festival which is in its first edition, a contest divided into three categories was launched: "Creative 2017" for artisans and creators of pearls. "Pearls of gold" open to journalists and "School beads" for students and students.
Conferences and debates, film and documentary screenings, bead exhibitions and sales, training workshops in the manufacture of jewelery made entirely of pearls and fashion shows are among other activities that will furnish this festival.
The FESTIP will end on 20 August.
