The president of the New Togolese Commitment (NET) is even more determined to return to the 1992 Constitution in Togo. In a public mouth, the former officer deeply regrets the refusal of UNIR deputies and members of the government to accept opposition amendments. He therefore calls on people to come out massively to show their determination on 20 and 21 September. Reading !
After the passage of the bill introduced by the Government by the Law Commission, there is no longer any doubt as to the sequence of events. Since we can not succeed in bringing together 4/5 of the deputies to adopt this revision in the Assembly, we will probably go to a referendum, since unir has 2/3 of the deputies to go through this way. This is in accordance with Article 144 of our Constitution. And all that remains legal.
I deeply regret the refusal of the united deputies and members of the government to accept opposition amendments, although I understand that presenting the return to the constitution of 92 as a sign of the immediate departure of the current president was not very judicious. To unite, it is like sawing the branch of the tree on which it is seated. There remains only one solution for the opposition: the popular demonstrations. If they are immense, and immobilize the activities of the country (those who demonstrate do not work), if non-violence seduces Togolese and motivates them to go out massively as we call it, what seems to be established can be untied. More than half of Togolese should be concerned.
If we do not succeed, tomorrow will be black for us. A draft constitution that would limit the number of presidential and legislative mandates and bring elections to two rounds would be difficult to fight in public opinion. On the one hand this would be perceived as a desire of the parliamentary opposition deputies to retain privileges, (many of them have been in the Assembly since 2007), but mainly because refusing to vote on the amendments would the current constitution. Difficult to explain this to the people. From the political and legal battle that opposes us to the party in power for 50 years, the one who will be perceived as reformer will win the bid. And the other side will face a serious crisis of confidence.
We finally have that possibility. Manifest enough for a constitution in the spirit of that of 92. Let us massively show our determination. What is happening now shows sufficiently the importance of the legislative elections, which the opposition will have to win at any price in 2018.
All on the street on September 20 and 21. To say our ras the bowl. Gerry Taama
