Kparatao is the name of the native village of Tikpi Atchadam in the prefecture of Tchaoudjo. It is also one of the places to have already paid a heavy tribute by losing one of his sons at the demonstrations of the PNP on August 19, 2017 in Sokodé. Kparatao now resembles a besieged village. Military, police and gendarmes took over this locality this Tuesday 19 September in the morning, locality located 8 kilometers east of Sokodé on the road to Tchamba.
Weapons in the fist, severe look and serious demeanor, soldiers of the regular army of our country patrol and search some houses in search of hypothetical weapons of war pretended to be stolen by protesters of the 19th of August last. Amazed, the villagers watch military trucks filled with soldiers in their quarters and wonder if Togo has entered the war. An elephant in a porcelain store, one would be tempted to say.
Apart from the armed soldiers to the teeth posted at the main crossroads of the village, dams are erected to search all those who enter the locality, as well as those who leave. The family home of the young deceased on August 19, 2017 was even entitled to a military visit. After putting all our senses on the ground without finding anything, our soldiers found nothing better to do than empty their loaders on an ox that was tied there and quietly grazed its grass in the yard of a butcher. The beast dies instantly; the smoke and the shrapnel of the bullets which succeeded in crossing the window of a room caused a crisis to the wife of the butcher who fell into syncope.
Witnesses who told us that at least two soldiers were hooded. Why did not they want to show their faces? Are they perhaps from the middle and are they afraid to be recognized? Every Kparatao wonders. Everyone knows that this is provocation and intimidation in prelude to the demonstrations of the opposition of 20 and 21 September 2017. That is why Mr Tikpi Atcadam has not failed to call calm and prudent to avoid falling into the trap of the enemies of political alternation. The Chief of the village and the Township of Kparatao, after having traveled to see the death of the ox, and above all to morally support the woman who was brought to the hospital, tried to calm the young people so that they would abstain provoke and insult the military.
To be complete the village of Kparatao was not the only place where Faure Gnassingbé sent his soldiersque to terrorize the populations. In fact, everything began in the morning at Sokode. Since the events of August 19, 2017 the Red Berets have never completely left this city. But there were early reinforcements of soldiers and excavations were concentrated in the Barriere and Kossombio quarters without a search warrant. At the latest news the military trucks full to burst have left Kaparatao and the calm seems to have returned. The chief of the village and of the township would have gone to the Prefecture to report to the Prefect.
As we write these lines, soldiers would still patrol the various districts of Sokode where there is a precarious calm.
What will happen tomorrow? Asked everyone in Tchaoudjo, especially since we are on the eve of the first day of the political demonstrations organized by the opposition coalition over the whole territory.
