Will the bill of constitutional revision adopted in the Council of Ministers be on the agenda of the extraordinary parliamentary session that opens on Tuesday? The answer to this question will be announced on Wednesday, 13 September, following the Conference of the Chairmen of the Committees of the National Assembly.
But in the meantime, the opposition coalition called CAP 2015-G6-PNP-People's Health CAR wants its militants and sympathizers to come down on Tuesday at the opening of the parliamentary session, "No" to this bill which, according to the leaders of this coalition, does not meet the aspirations of the Togolese people.
Jean-Pierre Fabre, the leader of the opposition, reiterated that they demand a return to the original Constitution of 1992 with all the consequences that flow from it.
The return to this Constitution means otherwise the departure of the current head of state, Faure Gnassingbé, midway through his third term, since Article 59 paragraph of the fundamental law requires that "in no case, shall not serve more than two (2) terms ".
"We are in this situation because of the crisis caused by the fact that the father of Mr. Faure Gnassingbé took 38 years in power and that for a long time he also turned the people into a jerk," added Brigitte Adjamagbo Johnson, president of CAP 2015.
For her, it was inappropriate to convene a special session of the Assembly to vote on ratification of a convention in the present state of the political situation in the country. "It is necessary that the government hear reason and quickly convene the session to vote for the return to the 1992 Constitution.
The political actors responsible for this coalition of opposition political parties say they do not need to wait to know the content of the bill to reject it.
As a reminder, on Friday, September 15, the coalition is organizing rallies throughout the country to nurture its militants and sympathizers. It will be followed on September 20th and 21st, a street demonstration just like what happened on September 6 and 7.
On this last demonstration that took place in several localities of the country, the CAP 2015-G6-PNP-People's CAR coalition did not hide its satisfaction for, says essentially an opening statement, "the great mobilization of the Togolese ".
The opposition also condemned what it described as "savage and barbaric repression of people with bare hands". It is reported that prefects in some parts of the country have mobilized to threaten those who go into the streets to protest. In Lomé, the coalition deplores the fact that a woman is seriously injured and that a young man has lost an eye, "because a police officer shot him," the statement said.
