False medicines are a real gangrene for society. According to the WHO, at least 700,000 people die each year because of the use of these fake drugs. A number that is cold in the back, given the proliferation of fake drug outlets in our countries.
To stop the use of these drugs that lead to death, the NGO Foundation for the Inter-community Organizations of Togo (FOI-Togo) sensitized the populations through a caravan last Tuesday.
After this awareness, a document containing a plea was handed to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Moustapha Midjiyawa.
Advocacy indicates that placing dangerous or inactive medicines on the market that are beyond control is both a threat to human security, a moral scandal and a challenge for development actors.
As a solution, advocacy advocates the securing of pharmaceuticals and their supply chains, increasing the availability of quality generic medicines for all.
It will also be necessary to inform, train and advise health professionals and, above all, remind the security forces, the police, the gendarmerie and the customs authorities to increase their vigilance and not to yield to corruption in order to allow these products to enter the territory .
