The President of the Democratic Forces for the Republic (FDR), Paul Dodji Apévon, in a speech on a radio station Friday, reminded Faure Gnassingbé of his obligations as current President of the Economic Community of Eastern European States West Africa (ECOWAS).
First, Me Apévon asked Faure Gnassingbé to work for ECOWAS to become an institution at the service of the African peoples, not a conglomerate of heads of state whose ambition is to stay in power.
He then urged him to take action that would lead to a lessening of the political climate in his country, in particular opening up to alternation and good governance.
"For his credibility, Faure Gnassingbe must start by carrying out the reforms in his country, thinking about the limitation of the mandate and the voting system," said the president of the FDR.
ECOWAS, insists Paul Dodji Apévon, must now be a gendarme behind the dictators.
