The media professionals were entitled on Wednesday to a guided tour of the lagoon system of Lomé and the construction works of the 4th lake. The visit is organized by the coordination of Phase 2 of the Urban Development Project of Togo (PAUT 2).
Indeed, Lomé depends on a system of evacuation of rainwater. In order to better understand the functioning of the system and to inform the public about its stakes, media professionals were first brought to the discharge outlet of the West Lake dumps, the 2.6 km long balancing channel, Located between Avenue Mittérand and Maman N'danida and connects the lakes West and East.
At the same time, they were taken to the site of the 4th lake under construction and its outlet located in Baguida, a neighborhood located on National No. 2.
The bitter fact is that the channels supposed to collect rainwater have become the point of fall of the solid waste that clog them. They prevent water from flowing freely.
"We organized this visit so that journalists could get involved in the lagoon system, understand how it works and see problems of dysfunction, including the discharge of solid waste that ends up in the gutters of the system and soak up the 4th lake project Under construction with its related works, "explained Godfrey Kossi Ehli, PAUT 2 Coordinator.
