The NGO BORNEfonden in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Consultation Council for Basic Sanitation in Togo (CCABT) celebrated the first edition of the World Day of Menstrual Hygiene in TOGO, Under the theme "Breaking the silence and let's talk about it". It was through a workshop that opened at the headquarters of BORNEfonden in Lomé on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
This workshop, which brought together the different actors of women's health, aims to present and validate in a participatory way the results of the basic study on the management of menstrual hygiene in Togo.
For the national director of the NGO BORNEfonden, Mrs. Christa Nedeagaard RASMUSSEN, this meeting will help develop communication, behavioral change and increase the participation of women in education and decision-making on the issue of menstruation.
This day will be an opportunity to break the silence and taboo on menstrual hygiene and create frameworks for discussion on the challenges that women and girls face in Togo. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness and engage the entire community to draw the attention of decision-makers to the importance of menstrual hygiene, said the representative of the Division of Maternal and Child Health and Family Planning In Togo, Mrs TABIOU Ninko.
