“Love is a beautiful thing.” These are the famous words of the Fall in Love crooner, D’Banj and I couldn’t agree more. Love is such a right thing that seems you can never go wrong. However, there are times when even people who genuinely care about each other miss it. Those moments lead to unhealthy relationships.
You might be wondering how people who actually love each other can make a mistake. You might assume that love is the only and most important ingredient in relationships but there are times when there should be limits.
A relationship in which you two are all over each other all the time such that you can’t do without each other smells fishy. I know of a couple who were so into each other that despite the fact that their differences in religion caused that they had no future together, they remained together. After a while, they decided that breaking up would be the best course of action for both of them since their families would not condone their getting married. They broke up and lo and behold, they both fell ill so they had to get back together. Eventually, they gave the break up another try due to external pressures. They were both miserable and so it took the girl finding a rebound guy while the guy had to get help from friends to get back on his feet.
There is something seriously wrong with that picture. Inasmuch as it is a good thing to care selflessly for each other, you two must also be able to exist outside of each other. If it so happens that someone is not meant for you and you have to break up, why should you fall sick?
A relationship is meant to be between two self-sufficient people that have decided to commit to a partnership, not two people who depend on each other to survive.
